Our Story
A Few Words About This Collaboration
Renowned filmmaker Steven Spielberg once said that early in his career, he believed in controlling the camera and directing others. However, as he progressed, he realized that true filmmaking is all about acknowledging the talents of the team and understanding that no film can be made single-handedly. Similarly, in the world of wine, collaboration is vital, as it is in the case of Oniv. When Master Sommelier Gareth Ferreira and businessman Clayton Foster were planning their first bottling, they understood the importance of working with the best in the industry. That’s why they approached the top South African Chenin Blanc producers, who have a reputation for producing exceptional quality wines.
Stellenbosch’s Bottelary Hills was the area they focussed on – with Kaapzicht and Stellenrust the two wine farms targeted. Both boast stellar reputations as chenin blanc specialists, with Kaapzicht home to the second oldest block of chenin planted in South Africa, the famous 1947 block. Stellenrust’s oldest single vineyard block was planted in 1964, and every year its increasing age is highlighted on its label.
The final blend component is a 10% splash of old vine colombar contributed by Kaapzicht winemaker Kayleigh Hatting from her personal label, Rebel Rebel.

Naudé Wines
Ian Naudé
One name that deserves special recognition is Ian Naudé of Naudé Family Wines. As a veteran winemaker whose wines have earned international acclaim, Naudé was a natural choice for counsel. His keen eye for talent and expert networking skills proved invaluable in connecting Ferreira and Foster with esteemed wineries Kaapzicht and Stellenrust.
But Naudé’s contributions didn’t stop there. He played a key role in the final blending decision for ONIV, drawing on his extensive knowledge and experience to ensure that the wine was of the highest quality possible. Some critics have even compared Naudé’s Grenache to the legendary Chateau Rayas, a testament to his unparalleled winemaking prowess.
