Our Story
How We Came To Be
“Of all possessions, a friend is the most precious,” wrote the Greek historian Herodotus while his fellow Greek, the philosopher Socrates stated: “Be slow to fall into friendship: but when thou art in, continue firm and constant.” So it is with long-time friends Gareth Ferreira and Clayton Foster. Separated by distance with Gareth resident in London for many years and Clayton based in Cape Town, the duo hatched a plan to allow them to spend time together on a project which indulged their mutual enjoyment of wine.
The masterplan is to release a single wine, reflective of a specific grape variety and vintage – made by top producers and yet uniquely blended by the partners. That it will be of superior quality and in limited quantities goes without saying.
With slightly more than 1 000 bottles made annually, there’s not a lot to go around but there is little doubt that the wine will be collectible. (Interestingly, there is a difference between collectable and collectible: the former describes items that can be collected – while the latter relates specifically to items which are deemed worthy of collecting such as special coins, stamps, rare books or wine.)
Collaboration is key, and with that in mind, it was decided to approach Gareth’s mentor, (renowned Master Sommelier and former UK sommelier of the Year) Ronan Sayburn, with an invitation to join in the fun. The rest, as they say, is history. And two became three.
